So, where are we in Carteret County? We have a deep seaport, a
limited rail system and little industry other than agriculture/
fishing, tourism, military support and the service/government
industry. Right now there is a possibility of opening of coastal
drilling in the future off North Carolina or adjoining states.
Should Carteret County not be looking into the possibility of
opening a refinery here? Sure the environmentalists will go
nuts, but what’s new?
Carteret County with a little foresight and cooperation of all
interests could put it’s self into a unique position of being
ahead of the game and reap tremendous benefits when coastal
drilling begins. Why give the option to counties surrounding
Wilmington, Charleston or Norfolk, when Morehead City is
available?
