“No More Excuses” |
(Cont)
North Carolina requires agencies to check the status of
prospective employers to prevent hiring illegal aliens (Google
E-Verify and North Carolina). That got me to thinking about what
might be done locally to accomplish the same end. For example,
could county commissioners and town councils require any
employer with a county/city contract or business license to hire
only employees who can work legally? Employers can use the free
E-Verify service to check on the employment eligibility of
employees. From the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
Web site: "E-Verify ... is an Internet based system operated by
the Department of Homeland Security in partnership with the
Social Security Administration that allows participating
employers to electronically verify the employment eligibility of
their newly hired employees." Google E-Verify to find the Web
site. Voila! No more excuses for hiring illegal aliens.
I urge elected leaders in county and municipal office to check
this and do their part in dealing with illegal aliens.
