Some quotes from his letter referring to us and others opposing illegal
immigration: “…you need to fear uneducated racists..,” “…bigotry with a fondness
for eugenics ( the study of methods of improving humans by allowing only
carefully chosen people to reproduce—Cambridge Dictionaries On Line)..,”
“…aligned with hate groups such as the Nazi-like skin heads.”, “…history of
hatred is troubling..,” “the division the last eight years or so have
created..,” “stop the horrible language that divides us..,” “The News Times
could begin the healing process with the removal of Ann Coulter’s columns.”
To be
fair, some of the above quotes he attributes to the Southern
Poverty Law Center. However, Mr. Clarke seems to have no trouble
adopting SPLC’s comments as reflecting his own views.
By
contrast, Mr. Thompson and I refrained from toxic, hateful,
racist and bigoted language (as those who think like us usually
do). We did not seek to stifle Ms. Roman’s and Mr. Clarke’s
freedom of speech (as he would for Ann Coulter). Mr. Thompson
and I would rather engage them on the issues in a thoughtful and
rational discussion without rancor. The worst either of us had
to say about Ms. Roman was when I stated “… I believe Ms. Roman
is a liberal.” If either Ms. Roman or Mr. Clarke want to
experience really hateful and toxic speech, they should log on
to some of the lunatic-left blogs.
Regardless
of your position on the issue of illegal immigration, I trust
you, the News Times readers, to judge for yourselves who is
using hateful and toxic rhetoric and who is not.
