Where will you be? - Gus Wilgus - 6 January
2008 |
Editor,
Strange how we Americans get all hyped up over the Presidential Caucus's /
Primaries in far away places like Iowa or New Hampshire. The pundits in NY City
and Washington seem to forget the premise that "all politics are local". Who is
in your local city, county and state government? These are the persons who
affect us especially in roads, schools and taxes on a daily basis. Who is in
your pocket more often in North Carolina extracting dollars, George Bush, Mike
Easly or your local government folks? (continued) |

Frankin' Walter - Gus Wilgus - 22 January 2008 |
|
Editor,
Here We Go Again! Walter Jones is campaigning at Taxpayer’s expense. If you got
the automated “Constituent “phone call over the weekend from our Congressman
Walter Jones then that little survey cost us his “constituents” big bucks.

An answer to Sarah Roman - Sam Sanford - 28 January 2008 |
|
I read with interest the letter from Sarah
Roman in the January 27 issue of the News Times. Ms. Roman was in favor of the
“comprehensive immigration reform” recently defeated in congress because of the
overwhelming opposition voiced by American citizens.

To Sarah Roman again - Sam Sanford - 31 January 2008 |
|
Editor,
In the Jan 30 News Times, John Thompson and I responded to Sarah Roman’s letter
of January 27 regarding illegal aliens. She accused opponents of the shamnesty
for illegal aliens of “hate” and “toxic rhetoric.” I thought that was bad until
I read John Clarke’s letter of January 30 supporting Ms. Roman.

Uplifting - Gus Wilgus - 31 January 2008 |
Editor,
This week was up lifting for me and over two hundred others as we listened to
Senator Fred Smith’ s vision for change in North Carolina at a meeting at West
Carteret High School in Morehead City. (continued) |

Fast and Loose - Gus Wilgus - 4 February 2008 |
Editor,
Memory most often
requires being directly impacted by an event in your life or that the event is
so large or horrific that it sticks with the population like Pearl Harbor or 9
-11. Smaller events with lesser horrifying aspects or long term impact seem to
fade in ones memory, especially if there is no long lasting personal effect.(continued) |

Moonbats - Sam Sanford - 17 February 2008 |
Editor,
Within the last few days the moonbats in the Berkeley, CA, city council have
disgraced themselves by passing a resolution telling Marine recruiters that
they were, "unwelcome intruders." Meanwhile, they support Code Pink idiots
in their attempts to run the Marines out of town. Such despicable actions
can be expected when lunatics are allowed to run the asylum. (continued)

Break the Strangle Hold - Gus Wilgus - 17 February 2008 |
Editor,
Last week I wrote a letter presenting Sen. Fred Smith as a viable candidate for
governor of North Carolina and ended by saying he was "the real hands on leader"
needed as our next governor in Raleigh. Well, this week I had the opportunity to
meet and listen to Pat McCrory speak in an unscripted format to the Carteret
County GOP Executive Committee, and he was also very impressive.

Where are the Young Republicans? - Al Behler - 11 March 2008 |

Young Republicans,
Watching the TV coverage of the Democrat Campaign, I know where the young
Democrats are, but I’m wondering where our Young Republicans are?

Please Indulge Me - Ro Thompson - 6 March 2008 |
|
To the Editor:
Please indulge me for just a moment…as I reminisce on the ad I heard on our
local Talk Station, The Talk Station radio 107.1 FM….
“do do do-do-do-do do do do do…
do do do-do-do-do do do do do….
do do-do do do….
do do-do do do…doooooooooooooooooooo...Joe McLaughlin is up to his old tricks…
…blah blah blah blah blah ….. …. re-elect Walter B. Jones” (continued)

Bell Running Again? - Gus & Judy Wilgus - 26 March 2008 |
|
Editor,
Now we think we’ve heard the ultimate in self-serving behavior. We were
listening at noon today
to 107.1 The Talk Station when the news carried the story of Bettie Bell’s
re-entry into local politics. Evidently Ms. Bell has carried a grudge and
resentment for several years after being fairly beaten in a Republican Primary
by Doug Harris. (continued)

Oil - Gus Wilgus - 21 May 2008 |
Editor,
A week or so ago while the price of oil was considered high I drove to Durham
and back for an appointment. I noted while driving at 57-60 mph or less on the
regular back roads almost everyone was driving at about the same speed between
Jacksonville and I-40. But at I-40, things really changed very few were driving
less than 80 and that was true going around Raleigh to Durham. (continued) |

Energy - Gus Wilgus - 15 June 2008 |
Editor,
Kruchev knew it, Putin knows it, Osama Bin Laden knows it, America’s enemies,
every single one, knows it. The dirty secret to overpowering the United States
is not by military onslaught or occupation it is economic collapse via energy
disruption. Hugo Chavez, the Saudi’s and Russians and yes, the Cubans all
realize that the soft under-belly of our country is energy, our high use energy
fires productivity unmatched anywhere in the world and our Achilles heel is
unwillingness to exploit our own resources while draining that of others. We
Americans go by the motto of “Not In My Backyard”! (continued) |

No more Excuses - Sam Sanford - 15 June 2008 |
TO THE EDITOR:
Finally, there is a little activity at the federal level to deal with the
problem of illegal aliens. A few days ago the president signed an executive
order requiring employers who hold government contracts to use on the contract
only employees working legally. (continued) |

Build A Refining Plant - Gus Wilgus - 18 June 2008 |
Editor,
This past week I read that in Union County, South Dakota there had been passage
of a referendum to approve the building of the first from scratch modern
refinery in the U.S. in thirty two years. This is an oil-sand refinery that will
be processing Canadian oil-sand across the border not processing drilled crude.
The building will take about five years from start to finish employing about
4,500 workers in the process then about 1,500 workers at the completed
refinery./ what a boon to that county. (continued) |

We're Being Ignored - Sam Sanford - 29 June 2008 |
|
Letter to the Editor:
On
Wednesday June 25th well
over 1,000 North Carolina
grassroots activists from across North Carolina
went to the North Carolina General Assembly to attend the Americans for
Prosperity sponsored Take Back Our State rally. They were not there to Take Back
The State for a political party, but for millions of
North Carolina citizens who are
concerned that they are being ignored by the leadership in the General Assembly.
