| A Sad Day - Gus Wilgus - 26 April, 2007 |
It’s a sad day in America, I see our local, 3rd District Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC) has thrown in once again with his old party Democrat. Walter is a defeatist soul of whining, not winning attitudes. (continued)

| Never Sound Retreat - Gus Wilgus - 30 April 2007 |
| North Carolina’s Republican (?) Third District Congressional Representative, Walter Jones Jr. claims to be strong on Defense and the Champion of Fiscal Restraint. Note his recent, but not unusual, siding with the Democrats in favoring legislation to bring an end to the Iraq Campaign in the War On Terror. (continued) |

| Open Letter to President Bush - Gus Wilgus - 13 June 2007 |
Dear Mr. President,
I am making this an open letter via newspapers as I know that most of our letters from the real political base never reach your desk. Further, I wanted my fellow Republicans, Independents and thinking Democrats to have a voice. So I’m hoping that a number of North Carolina newspapers will print this and that other citizens will speak up also. (continued) |

| Term limits, anyone? - Sam Sanford - 29 June, 2007 |
Your article in the June 28 N&O (State board fines legislator) reports that State Representative Mary McAllister, (D-Fayetteville), made what may be kindly described as a real mess of her personal and campaign finances while acting as her own campaign treasurer. The State Board of Elections made her return money she claims to have "repaid" herself for loans she never made to her campaign and gave her a slap-on-the-wrist fine equal to improper contributions she had received. You further reported that during the hearings with the Board of Elections she invoked her fifth amendment right not to incriminate herself. (continued)

| War on Terror - Joe McLaughlin - 18 July, 2007 |
The actions taken this week in the United States Senate continue to shed light on the stark differences in Washington when it comes to the War on Terror and the possible consequences of playing politics with this important issue. (continued)

| Going In the Wrong Direction? - Gus Wilgus - 19 July 2007 |
The events of the passing years since 9/11 have been puzzling for me at best. More often than not, I’ve been confused by the media and the polls continuous drumming of “The country is going in the wrong direction”. (continued)

| Hey There, Walter! - Gus Wilgus - 27 July 2007 |
Remember us? We are the folks of the 3rd North Carolina District. You seem to have lost touch with who and what we are. We read your comments / statements calling for the NFL Commissioner to suspend Michael Vick. Now Walter we are dog owners and abhor dog fighting as much as our neighbors, but when does Atlanta fall in our District? (continued)

| Broken Bridges/Highways and Trust Funds - Gus Wilgus - 3 Aug 2007 |
|
The headlines about Minnesota's bridge collapse should be read in North Carolina with trepidation. When will we see the effects of going from "The Good Highways State" to 36th in the Nation? When will Governor Easley's raiding of the Highway Trust Fund take effect with the disastrous results seen in the Gopher State? Thanks to our Governor and his Democrat pals in the Legislature our tax dollars have been misused, abused and spent on a paved road of social pet projects for years. Thanks to Basnight, Black, Purdue and Company's hard road work we find ourselves on an Easley designed road to disaster.

Plagiarism - Gus Wilgus - 6 Dec 2007 |
|
Editor,
Looks like Congressman Walter Jones can add
plagiarism to his long list of recent accomplishments. Walter took off some
time from his usual pastime of Bush Bashing to weigh in on Immigration. He
put out a political mailer paid for at TAXPAYERS EXPENSE to show us how
tough he is on the issue. The only problem was the content to was not his. (continued) |

Ronnie's Rants - Gus Wilgus - 16 December
2007 |
Editor,
In former State Representative Ronnie Smith's letter published this past
Wednesday, he sounded so much like a Republican that I had to check his voter
registration to see if he had switched parties. Nope; Ronnie Smith is still a
Democrat. (continued) |

“unsolicited
subscriptions” - Gus & Judy Wilgus - 27 December 2007 |
Editor,
This morning’s edition of the Daily News with the article about;
“unsolicited subscriptions” brings to mind the number of mean petty
political games often played by the Left. A few unwanted subscriptions are
nothing when compared to the tactics used by Hillary and Bill Clinton to
control the “bimbo eruptions” or Whitewater or even the present electoral
process. (continued)

Where will you be? - Gus Wilgus - 6 January
2008 |
Editor,
Strange how we Americans get all hyped up over the Presidential Caucus's /
Primaries in far away places like Iowa or New Hampshire. The pundits in NY City
and Washington seem to forget the premise that "all politics are local". Who is
in your local city, county and state government? These are the persons who
affect us especially in roads, schools and taxes on a daily basis. Who is in
your pocket more often in North Carolina extracting dollars, George Bush, Mike
Easly or your local government folks? (continued) |

Frankin' Walter - Gus Wilgus - 22 January 2008 |
|
Editor,
Here We Go Again! Walter Jones is campaigning at Taxpayer’s expense. If you got
the automated “Constituent “phone call over the weekend from our Congressman
Walter Jones then that little survey cost us his “constituents” big bucks.

An answer to Sarah Roman - Sam Sanford - 28 January 2008 |
|
I read with interest the letter from Sarah
Roman in the January 27 issue of the News Times. Ms. Roman was in favor of the
“comprehensive immigration reform” recently defeated in congress because of the
overwhelming opposition voiced by American citizens.

To Sarah Roman again - Sam Sanford - 31 January 2008 |
|
Editor,
In the Jan 30 News Times, John Thompson and I responded to Sarah Roman’s letter
of January 27 regarding illegal aliens. She accused opponents of the shamnesty
for illegal aliens of “hate” and “toxic rhetoric.” I thought that was bad until
I read John Clarke’s letter of January 30 supporting Ms. Roman.

Uplifting - Gus Wilgus - 31 January 2008 |

Fast and Loose - Gus Wilgus - 4 February 2008 |
Editor,
Memory most often
requires being directly impacted by an event in your life or that the event is
so large or horrific that it sticks with the population like Pearl Harbor or 9
-11. Smaller events with lesser horrifying aspects or long term impact seem to
fade in ones memory, especially if there is no long lasting personal effect.(continued) |

Moonbats - Sam Sanford - 17 February 2008 |
Editor,
Within the last few days the moonbats in the Berkeley, CA, city council have
disgraced themselves by passing a resolution telling Marine recruiters that
they were, "unwelcome intruders." Meanwhile, they support Code Pink idiots
in their attempts to run the Marines out of town. Such despicable actions
can be expected when lunatics are allowed to run the asylum. (continued)

Break the Strangle Hold - Gus Wilgus - 17 February 2008 |
Editor,
Last week I wrote a letter presenting Sen. Fred Smith as a viable candidate for
governor of North Carolina and ended by saying he was "the real hands on leader"
needed as our next governor in Raleigh. Well, this week I had the opportunity to
meet and listen to Pat McCrory speak in an unscripted format to the Carteret
County GOP Executive Committee, and he was also very impressive.
